The capital of the state of Saarland, ³§²¹²¹°ù²ú°ùü³¦°ì±ð²Ô is situated in the southwest of Germany. A medium-sized city, it is the administrative, cultural and commercial center of the state and a major university town. The city is a conglomeration of three former towns: St. Johann, Malstatt-Burbach and ³§²¹²¹°ù²ú°ùü³¦°ì±ð²Ô that were brought together in 1909, and has numerous historic buildings dating back to the 16th century.

With a population of 180,000, ³§²¹²¹°ù²ú°ùü³¦°ì±ð²Ô is mid-sized as German cities go. The area was first settled more than 2,000 years ago, but the city as it is now, has only existed for just over one hundred years. Home to four universities, the city is a major seat of learning across disciplines.

Saarland University, the main campus of which is located in ³§²¹²¹°ù²ú°ùü³¦°ì±ð²Ô, is a major research institution for modern technology, with several research centers located there including the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, the Institute for Software Systems and the Leibniz Institute for New Materials. The other universities in ³§²¹²¹°ù²ú°ùü³¦°ì±ð²Ô include the University of Applied Sciences, which specializes in the study of engineering and other vocational subjects, the University of Arts and the University of Music, all of which are well-regarded places to study.
³§²¹²¹°ù²ú°ùü³¦°ì±ð²Ô is home to more than 15,000 businesses and is a major center for the mechanical engineering, ceramic, automotive and pharmaceutical industries, including the company ZF - a global technology company.
