One of the oldest spa towns in Europe

The capital of the German state of Hesse, Wiesbaden is located in the southwest of Germany. The city is one of the richest in Germany and is known in particular for its hot springs, of which there are fourteen. These springs have led to a bathing culture, with thousands of visitors every year enjoying the city’s thermal baths.

The city is fairly large, with around 290,000 inhabitants and dates back to 6 AD, when the Roman Empire erected a fort there. The thermal springs of the city began being used shortly afterwards. The modern city is a mix of old and new buildings but has a number of notable architectural sites, including the Ducal Palace, Kurhaus and St. Elizabeth’s Church.

Studying and Working in Wiesbaden

Wiesbaden has two higher education institutions. The first, RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, focuses its teaching and research on the Social Sciences, Engineering and Business, with the well-regarded Wiesbaden Business School forming a part of the university. The second is the EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht, which is a private research university founded in 1971. The university specializes in the study of Business, Management, Finance, and Law.

Wiesbaden is the German home of a number of international companies, including Ferrari in the automobile sector, and Abbott Laboratories in the science sector. One of the largest industrial parks in Germany, the Industriepark Kalle-Albert is also situated in Wiesbaden, where over 80 pharmaceutical and chemical companies are based.
