°Õü²ú¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô is a hilly city in Baden-Württemberg that straddles the river Neckar and is surrounded by the Swabian Alb mountains and a wooded nature park. The city is home to the second-largest university in the state and a Renaissance-style castle.

There are around 27,600 students at the University of °Õü²ú¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô, who make up a large proportion of the 87,544 residents in the city. Overall, international residents make up 22% of the population which includes people from around 140 different countries. The university is the second-largest in Baden-Württemberg and is a huge part of the identity of the city. °Õü²ú¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô has eight museums, sees many diverse cultural events, and hosts festivals.

Life in °Õü²ú¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô is all about the university, officially called Eberhard Karls University of °Õü²ú¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô, which is one of the oldest in the country dating back to 1477. Seven faculties including theology, law, medicine, and humanities offer over 335 degree programs. The city has a huge number of bookshops, and regular music and film festivals.

The university and its hospital are the biggest employers in °Õü²ú¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô with around 10,000 employees. Two technology parks have been built in order to encourage the growth of the biotechnology and medical technology industries. Companies here are closely linked to the university. Other industries in the city with both new and traditional companies include engineering, toolmaking, and textiles.
